Polihronis Vasiliadis, 86, of Worcester passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 28th, 2024 at UMass Hospital University Campus. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Melanthi (Pirperis) Vasiliadis; his three sons, Nikolaos Vasiliadis and his wife Georgia and her son, Xristo of Shrewsbury, Dimitrios Vasiliadis and his wife, Chrisoula (Beza) of Worcester, and Vasilios Vasiliadis of Worcester; his brother Vasilios Vasiliadis and his wife, Maria of Worcester; a sister Konstantinia Voyiatzis of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Polihronis N. and his wife, Rachel, Katerina and her husband, Can, Melanthi N. and her husband, Corey, Polihronis D. Vasiliadis, Melanthi C. and her husband Dimitrios, Anthony and his partner Morgan, and Maria Vasiliadis; four great grandchildren, Lila, Kaya, Marcus, and Aria, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Nikolaos Vasiliadis, and mother, Rodi (Dimitrakopoulos) Vasiliadis, two brothers, Dimitrios and Georgios Vasiliadis, and a sister, Maria Georgiadis.
Polihroni was born in Hrisohorafa, Serron, Greece, where he worked as a farmer and sawmill operator. His passion for soccer led him to serve as President of the local soccer team for many years. He also served in the Greek Army. In July of 1978, he immigrated with his loving family to Worcester. He worked hard and successfully owned and operated many businesses in Worcester County. He was a long-time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Cultural Center Hrisohorafiton-Alexander the Great, where he also served as President. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and taking long walks, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Pappou, we will miss your radiant smile, your caring hugs, your support, and most of all, your love. Thank you for being the best husband, baba, and Pappou. We will cherish all of the wonderful memories we made together. We love you.
Calling hours will be at O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue on Friday November 1st, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 12:30pm at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral 102 Russell Street in Worcester. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery.
