WEBSTER – Donald J. "Don" Meagher, 89, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 26, 2024 in Care One of Millbury with family at his side.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth A. (Petrin) Meagher; 3 daughters, Donna M. Gryncewicz and her husband Robert R. of Dudley, Angela Siegmund and her husband Arthur of Bridport, VT, and Laurie A. Leckfor and her husband Michael of Hampton, NH; 5 grandchildren, Patricia Nelson, Robert A. Gryncewicz, Colin Siegmund and his significant other Siri Swanson, Jacob Donohue and his wife Amanda, and Anna Donohue and her significant other Ronald Keeton; a great-grandson, Clayton James; and many cousins. Mr. Meagher was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many.
He was born on June 24,1935 in Webster, the only child of James M. and Mary M. (Kleczka) Meagher and graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1953. He then attended Indiana
Tech in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a lifelong resident of Webster.
He served in the Army National Guard during the 1950's.
Mr. Meagher first worked in quality control at Cranston Print Works for 10 years. He then was a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service in Oxford for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica and a member of its Holy Rosary Sodality and Saint Ann Society. Don and Betty volunteered many years at parish festivals and events as member of the friends of Saint Joseph. He was a member and past treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Council #12980 at the parish.
Mr. Meagher also served for 10 years on the Webster Finance Committee and was a member of the building committee for the new Bartlett High School in the mid-1970’s. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking, biking and tending his garden. For 10 years, he and Betty looked forward to their annual trip to Bermuda.
His funeral will be held Saturday, November 2, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace with military honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veteran's Council. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Donations in his name may be made to Saint Joseph Elementary School, 47 Whitcomb Street, Webster, MA 01570.
