John F. O’Connell, Jr., age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024. John was born and raised in South Boston, MA and has been a resident of Norton, MA for over 48 years. He was a devoted husband, married to his childhood sweetheart Gerry O’Connell (Barnes) for 57 wonderful years. He is also survived by loving daughters Debbie and Lynda O’Connell, all of Norton, MA
He was the son of the late John F. and Marie (Blanchard) O'Connell. He was the brother of Marie King of Norton, Lorraine Peacock of Providence RI, the late Helen O'Connell, the late Catherine Healey, Deanna Hilliard and Alice Kelly both of Braintree, the late Rita Knecht, Lawrence O'Connell of Taunton, the late Michael O'Connell, the late Eileen Nolet, and the late Norman O'Connell. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families.
John proudly served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
He had worked as a builder/contractor for over 50 years. John had a deep love for his many dogs and cats, always finding joy in their companionship throughout his life.
One of John’s greatest joys was working in his home garage with his brother Larry. John also enjoyed touring Civil War and other historical battlefields, immersing himself in the rich history and stories of the past. His passion for history was evident in the many trips he took to explore these significant sites.
John’s kindness, dedication, and love for his family and friends will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, November 3rd from 2:00-5:00P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy at the conclusion of visiting hours at 5:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
