Fred L. Packard III, a resident of East Bridgewater, MA passed away Friday, October 25, 2024. He was born on April 12, 1946, in Medford, MA, to Mary Frances McFarland and Fred Leon Packard II.
His family moved to Hanson in 1956. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was a member of the Kennedy Space Center team and launched the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. He was employed by M.I.T. for three years before joining Grossman’s as a computer operator in 1973 and retiring as a Senior Programmer Analyst in 2000. He was a past master and officer of Puritan Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Whitman.
He is survived by his children, Teresa Packard, Tracy Packard, Tina (Jesse) Rutherford and Shawn (Wendy) Packard; his siblings, Mary Coulsey, Dorothy Perron, James (Pat) Packard, and Elizabeth (Jay) A. Acquaviva; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, his life long friend Dr. Michael Ward of West Bridgewater, his Masonic lodge brothers and many other caring friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Joan Maul and Elaine P. Smiley, and his fiancé, Jean A. McCormack.
