Obituary

Lisa Ann Frey, born in Deadwood, South Dakota at St. Joseph’s hospital on November 21, 1956, to Gretchen Ann Hemminger Frey and Donald Reid Frey passed away in Ventura, California on August 28, 2024. She leaves her sister Sara Ellen Frey Edwards, nephew Reid Paul Edwards and many relatives and friends who cherished her, as well as students who appreciated her hearty enthusiasm for teaching them. She brought immeasurable kindness to our world and her love and fine ability to remember people and events were a relied-upon treasure.
Lisa earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History, with honors, from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, and was later commissioned as officer and commanded a US Army Signal Corps company stationed with an armored division in Germany for 4 years.
She earned a Multiple Subject Credential at Cal State Northridge, (for teaching elementary school children from diverse backgrounds) as well as a Master of Education degree specializing in Education Technology & Instructional Design from UCSB and had begun the ABA-approved Paralegal Studies program at UCSB.
She was retired from many years of teaching in the Santa Paula Elementary School District, and also spent a year of teaching kindergarten at Sebastian’s School, a Catholic Parochial School in Santa Paula. She was a long-term substitute for the Home Schooling program and other public schools. She was a Peer Instructor through the UCSB Natural Science Foundation, served on various District and School-level committees.
She was in Kappa Delta sorority; Chapter L.R. of P.E.O. (serving as President, Treasurer, Reciprocity President, and on the State Planning Board), a member of D.A.R. (Chapter Regent, District Secretary), was a member of Eastern Star (holding various offices.) She was in the Circle K International and the Kiwaniannes. At St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Santa Paula, she served as Altar Guild Director, choir member, Lay Reader, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and served on the Vestry since 1987.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s-Emmanuel Church (117 N. 7th St., Santa Paula) on November 23, 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Larry Brown, followed by a light reception.
Donations in her name may be made to the Santa Paula Library, St. Paul’s-Emmanual Episcopal Church music program, or to P.E.O. scholarships. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
