David F. Mooney, 77, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, in the Grandview Center, Cumberland, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Kathleen (Cawley) Mooney, together sharing 55 years of marriage.
Born in Attleboro, MA, David was the son of the late Francis and Violet (Mickelson) Mooney. An Army veteran, David bravely served 15 months in Korea. Living in Pawtucket for most of his life, he worked as a pressman for 46 years for the Providence Journal and later the Woonsocket Call. A proud member of The Pressmen’s Union, David retired from The Call in 2011, when they closed.
Known for his kindness, David was always smiling and joking with family and friends. He was an avid golfer, loved watching movies, and loved his Boston sports teams. Above all, he cherished his role as a grandfather, or “Umpa,” as he was lovingly known. He treasured every moment spent with them.
Besides his wife, David leaves behind his children, Kelly R. Mooney of Harrisville and David P. Mooney and his wife Katrina of Glocester. He was the adored “Umpa” of Haleigh and Gavin Mooney. He also leaves two brothers, Thomas Mooney of Wakefield and Christopher Mooney of Plant City, FL. He was preceded in death by siblings Joyce Solotke, Daniel Mooney, Francis Mooney, and Gail Baluch.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 2, 2024 in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI with burial with Military honors will follow in the RI Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 4:00 -7:00 pm.
