Pauline (Magazzu) Zielinski, 79 years old, of Medford, Massachusetts passed away peacefully after a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 22nd. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rosa (Bertuccini) Magazzu. Pauline moved to Medford in 1956 from the West End of Boston and lived in her childhood home for 68 years until her passing.
Pauline graduated from Medford High School in 1963. Upon graduation she went to work as a secretary and became a trusted employee of Consumers Union Insurance company for 48 years. It was the only job she ever had. Pauline was very active in her church, first at St Clements in Somerville and then at St Joseph’s in Medford. She was also active in local and national politics, always volunteering during elections to organize and monitor the proceedings to be sure that each and every registered voter was treated fairly and with respect. She was a kind and gentle person who always treated people with kindness.
Pauline met her husband Arthur, who passed away earlier this year, in 1986 and they were married in 1988. They moved into her family home in Medford, where they spent 36 happy years together. In their later years, Pauline and Arthur looked forward to the adventures that their time-share in Aruba had to offer. In the winter months they looked forward to leaving the cold and snow and enjoyed the warmth and sun of extended stays in Florida.
Pauline loved to talk and interact with people. Always starting conversations with people she knew and people she didn’t know, putting them at ease and showing sincere interest in what they had to say. Pauline always look forward to the holidays where she would spend time with her cousins and their children who she dearly loved. Pauline’s friendliness and love of people will be missed by all who knew her.
Pauline had a large extended family consisting of many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her first cousins: Joseph Itrato, Paula (Spinale) DeMarco, Joanne and Jerry Capone, Elia and Paolo Magazzu, and Anna & Mello (Deceased) Magazzu. She also leaves behind many other cousins that she loved dearly.
A Catholic Service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd., Medford, MA 02155 on Friday, November 8th at 11AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and are encouraged to arrive at the cemetery entrance no later than 10:45 AM to join a procession to graveside. Pauline’s family would like all who attend to join them afterward in a celebration of life at Bertucci’s Restaurant, 4054 Mystic Valley Parkway, Medford, MA 02155.
