Daniel J. MacDonald, 82, of Chester, NH, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024, in Colonial Poplin Nursing Home, Fremont, NH. He was born on September 5, 1942 in Fitchburg, MA, a son of John J. MacDonald and Helen (Uzialko) Rines.
Daniel Graduated Fitchburg High of MA in 1960 and moved on to Lowell Tech (now UMass Lowell) where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He worked for Raivaaja Public Co. during high school for three years, then Fitchburg Woolen Mills and Fitchburg Public Works before ultimately gaining a career with PSNH where he stayed for 37 years. Daniel had many interests, including repairing mechanical or electrical items, spending time with his daughter, grandkids and old high school friends. Daniel even gained his private pilot’s license after retiring. His biggest passion above all was his horses. Dan's true happy place was at the barn, where he spent most of his free time.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather MacDonald of Milo, ME; three grandchildren, Justin Diamond of Chester, NH, Jasmine Williams of Bennington, NH, Jacob Diamond of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; one great-grandson, Theodore Diamond (son of Justin); two sisters, Sandra Dululio of Templeton, MA, Kathleen MacDonald of Florida, as well as two nieces and a nephew. Also of note are several close friends, including Rita Barret of Derry, NH, Laurie Gill of Manchester, NH, and Sue and Vinny Mazzaglia of Chester, NH.
Dan will be remembered for his kind nature and vast knowledge of so many things. He was always willing to help with anything that needing fixing or doing, and always had an anecdote or bit of wisdom to impart. Everyone who met him was better for having known him.
