Obituary

George A. Melchionne, age 71, of East Bridgewater, passed away on Wednesday October 23, 2024, at Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital.

Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Anthony M. and Natalie M. (Rogers) Melchionne.
He worked for the Salvation Army for forty-two years in many capacities, first as a truck driver, then as dispatcher, and most recently as a warehouse foreman before retiring.

George will be remembered for being outgoing and giving. He helped so many people who were down in their luck always often putting the needs of others before his own. George was a strong believer in giving people second chances.

An avid NASCAR fan, he especially admired Dale Earnhardt Sr and his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. He also enjoyed visiting local flea markets, fishing, traveling up north to see the foliage, and loved being present as well as participating in activities and sporting events for his nieces and nephews. Family was the center of his life and very important to him.

He is survived by his sister, Natalie L. Mackinaw of Bridgewater; a brother, Dennis Melchionne and his wife Ellen of Hilton Head, SC; an aunt Della Melchionda of Quincy; his nieces, Kelly Mackinaw, Michelle Mackinaw, Melanie (Mackinaw) Figueiredo, Elizabeth (Melchionne) Petro, and Denise (Melchionne) Ivey; great nieces and nephews, Alicia Roseberry, Anthony Petro, and Trevor Ivey; and great great nieces and nephews, Brooke Roseberry, Aubree Roseberry, Luke Roseberry, and Peyton Roseberry. George also leaves behind several cousins and was the brother-in-law of the late Philip Mackinaw.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 9:30 am to 11:15 am, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 12:00 pm, in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 210 Central Street, East Bridgewater. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery in Brockton at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the National MS Society, PO Box #91891, Washington, D.C. 20090 or to The Salvation Army - Disaster Relief, PO BOX 1959, Atlanta, GA 30301
