On October 23, 2024, William Joseph “Billy” Fitzpatrick, Jr., (age 63) of Charlestown, formerly of San Diego, CA, passed peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born to the late William J. and Margaret (Connolly) Fitzpatrick. He grew up in Charlestown and attended St. Catherine’s Grammar School and Pope John High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Upon discharge, Billy relocated to San Diego, graduated from college, opened a business and started a family. Throughout the next 40 years, Billy remained in Southern California until last year when he decided to return home.
Billy was quick-witted, funny and had countless friends. He was well read and had a variety of interests, including architecture, history, visiting museums, traveling, building model airplanes, art and all things “Townie”. He was the creator of the Facebook Page “Fitzgraphics” where he enjoyed sharing his collection of photos, clippings and art, documenting Boston’s most notorious Irish neighborhood.
Billy’s favorite role was being a dad to his son, Brendan, they enjoyed spending time together and he was proud of all his accomplishments.
Billy is the devoted father of Brendan Shane Fitzpatrick of San Diego and the late Colin Fitzpatrick. He is the beloved brother of Mary and her husband, Mark Assad, Peggy and her husband, Tom McGoff, all of Melrose, Dan Fitzpatrick and his wife, Lori of North Carolina and Joe Fitzpatrick and his wife, Michele of Charlestown. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Billy’s Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 10 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. There will be no visiting hours.
