Howard Allen Marx, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024 in Ventura, California. Howard was born in the Bronx borough of New York City, New York, to Moses and Mildred Marx (Topper) on December 20, 1931.
Not long after receiving a diploma from the School of Industrial Art in New York City, Howard was drafted into the U.S. Army and served two years serving his country while stationed in Germany during the early years of the Korean War.
Upon his return to the States, he traveled westward as a young man finding work in law enforcement and security along the way including working in newly growing cities like Las Vegas, Nevada. He would reminisce that it was during this time that he investigated amateur prospecting and invested time in donkey farming.
He eventually made his way to California where he met and married his wife, Hattie, and started a family in Modesto, California. He went on to earn an Associate of Arts Degree in business and worked as an accountant until his retirement.
Howard was a loving husband and father who through the years enjoyed many pastimes and hobbies. Tennis, basketball, golf and bowling were his favorite sports to play, with football being his favorite spectator sport with watching his beloved San Francisco Forty-Niners of the N.F.L.
He was also known to coin and stamp collect, however, his favorite thing to do throughout most of his long life was to enjoy playing cards, dice games, dominoes, and board games of all kinds with Hattie and any and all family and friends that would join them. Likewise, Howard had a passion for listening to recorded music and watching old movies. He especially enjoyed the old musicals from his younger days. He was always willing and wanting to talk about his favorites and he was fond of sharing his large collection with anyone. He also loved the original Nintendo games, spending hours adventuring with Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy and Zelda.
R.I.P. Howard Allen Marx. You will be missed greatly and remembered as a gentle and caring man by the thousands that had the pleasure of you touching their lives.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and sister Doris Weinraub, and his late wife of 50 years Hattie Dorine Marx (Page). He is survived by his four loving children: Shelly Carroll and husband Dan, Beverly Goldsmith and husband Jamie, Greg Marx and wife Laura, and Myles Marx as well as many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
