Obituary

WEBSTER - Matthew J. Mitchell, beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend, died tragically after being struck by a car on October 19, 2024, at the age of 57 in Webster, MA. Born on July 18, 1967, Matthew grew up in Wellesley, MA and graduated from Wellesley High School. He worked in the surrounding area until settling in Webster, on the lake where he spent childhood summers with his family.

Matthew is survived by his brother, Andrew Mitchell and Andrew's husband Thiesco Mitchell of Woburn, MA; his sister Maria Mitchell and her husband Patrick Burke of Jericho, VT. He also leaves behind his adored nieces, Molly and Anna Burke and nephew, Patrick Burke, loving cousins and many friends. Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia L. Mitchell and Emlyn “Mike” Mitchell of Wellesley, MA.

Matthew was known for his outgoing nature, staying connected with childhood friends and continuously making new ones. He was deeply loved by his family and was a lifelong, enthusiastic fan of all Boston sports teams. Matthew enjoyed spending his time at the lake, where he relished large gatherings of family and friends for cookouts, always ensuring everyone felt welcomed and had a fun time.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 29 from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be held privately in Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, in the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Webster Lake Association, PO Box 156, Webster, MA 01570 or a charity of your choice.

Matthew's life was a testament to the joy of keeping close bonds and cherishing family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
