James Dale Bentley
September 26, 1936 - October 4, 2024
James Dale Bentley,88, went to his heavenly home Friday, October 4, 2024. He was born September 26, 1936, to Rev. James Mark and Lena Belle (Ogle) Bentley in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Known mostly as Dale, Dad, Daddy Dale, and Grandpa to many, he loved journeying through life with his devoted wife, Bev, and enjoyed spending time with all his family and friends. Unlike his wife who loved technology, Dale liked to keep things simple. If you wanted to spend time with him, it was in person or on a traditional phone call, though he was getting pretty good at FaceTime.
Professionally, he was always determined to outwork everyone. From the Navy (’59-’63) to DC Metropolitan Police (’63-‘65) to Uniformed Secret Service at the White House (’65-‘77) or the many small businesses he ran, few would ever be as determined to get the job done and get it done right. Dale also worked many years in marshalling with Pratt & Whitney and loved to talk about the SR-71 Blackbird.
A talented singer and worship leader, he was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ in each of the churches in which he served in Maryland (Accokeek Church of God), Pennsylvania (Pine Ave. First Church of God, Cambridge Springs Church of God), Florida (Church in the Gardens), and Indiana (Madison Park Church of God, Chesterfield Community Church of God). Dale was best known for his passion for hymns and choir music, serving the church through countless acts of service, and his deep, unwavering love of the Church of God-Anderson.
Remembering Dale in life are his loving children, Jim (Sherry) Bentley, Tammy (Kerry) Fahey, Barry (Cyndee) Bentley and Greg (Justine) Bentley; his cherished grandchildren; Heather, Amber (Zen), Michelle (Branden), Ashley, Chelsea (John), Kevin, Shane (Savannah), Jessica (Max), and Tyler; his beloved great grandchildren: Ayla, Levi, Eliorah, Myles, Zachary, Willow, and twins on the way.
Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Beverley Bentley (Linhart), parents, James Mark and Lena Belle (Ogle) Bentley, his brother, David Bentley, and sisters, Marion Jones, Catherine Moe, and Edna Fox.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a service and celebration of life at Chesterfield Community Church of God – Main Sanctuary, 123 Linden Ln, Chesterfield, IN, 46017 on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 visitation and music from 1 p.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Chesterfield Community Church of God.
