Joseph S. “Tino” Tarantino, age 84, of Medford passed away on Tuesday, October 22nd, at Kaplan Family Hospice House of Danvers. A lifelong Medford resident, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Arita (Lucido) Tarantino. For many years Joseph owned and operated Tino’s Canteen and also served as a crossing guard for the city of Medford. He loved golf and other sports, and had his own championship soft-ball team. Joseph was an auxiliary member of DAV as well as a member of the Medford Sons of Italy.
Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Joan (Primeterra) Tarantino, and the loving companion of Joann Robinson of Medford. He was the devoted father of Jeannine Barry of Wilmington, Jennifer Prendergast and her husband Michael of Billerica, the late Michael J. Tarantino, and late infant daughter Jolene. Joseph was the loving grandfather of Michael A. Tarantino and Julia, Brian and Emily Barry. He was the dear brother of Jo-Anne Petrucci and her husband Ken of Newburyport, and the late Francis Tarantino. Joseph is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, friends and his cherished bird Sal and grand-dogs Myles and Benson.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Joseph’s family on Monday, October 28th from 9 through 11 AM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
