Susanne Sokol
September 27, 1925-October 18, 2024
Susanne Sokol passed away on October 18th, 2024, in Phoenix Arizona at the age of 99.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alexander Paul Sokol, parents William Allen and Clara Belle (Gillespie) Cooper, brothers Robert Cooper and Jerry Cooper, sisters Clarice Gammon and Mary Elizabeth Stinson, niece Ginna Gammon, nephews Greg Gammon and Tim Cooper.
She is survived by her son Jeffrey, wife Dawn, their son Ryan Sokol, sister-in-law Sandra Cooper, nieces Beth Ann Butler, Teresa Cooper, and Susanne Malles, nephews John Cooper, Mark Stinson and Steve Stinson.
Susanne was born on September 27th, 1925, in Anderson, Indiana to William and Clara Cooper. She spent a few years in St. Louis, Missouri in her early childhood to accommodate her father’s work, but then returned to Anderson to spend the majority of her life there. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1942 and at the age of 18 she began working as a secretary at Delco-Remy, a division of General Motors. She worked at Delco-Remy for 42 years and dearly loved her job. Susanne and Alex were married in 1952 and remained happily married until Alex’s passing in 2011. Susanne was a devoted Christian and an active member of Central Christian Church for several decades. She played golf in the summer with her sisters Clarice and Mary Elizabeth. She also was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed the weekly gatherings with her teammates from Delco-Remy and various friends. Taking summer vacations were cherished events for her and family.
Susanne and Alex moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2007 to enjoy the sunshine, to see their son Jeffrey and his wife Dawn, but the real reason was to spend time with their newly born grandson Ryan. It was hard for Susanne to leave her remaining siblings, nieces and nephews in Anderson, but it was something she knew she must do. In early 2013, she took residence with Dawn, Jeffrey and Ryan. She was able to spend her remaining years as a live-in grandmother, just as her mother did.
Susanne was always optimistic, cheerful and supportive to whoever was in need. She was truly a blessing to all those who knew her. She will be missed here on Earth, but we can take comfort in knowing she is now in the company of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. Micheal Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
