Mrs. Gloria M. (Lindner) Carew, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late John J. Carew, Jr., passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Monday morning, October 21, 2024. She was 97 years old.
Born in Malden, Massachusetts, on December 25, 1926, she was the beloved daughter of the late William and Genevieve (Mahoney) Lindner.
Gloria was a graduate of the Boston Teachers College and had been employed as a Kindergarten Teacher in Boston and Medford, for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and dancing. Gloria was a member of the Tommy Vance Dancers in Florida. She also played piano and drums and enjoyed camping, especially at Grandview Campground in E. Rochester, New Hampshire. She was a longtime member and a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph’s Church. Above all, Gloria was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Gloria is survived by her loving children; Linda M. Carew and her husband Phil Luedee of Phippsburg, Maine, Joan T. and her husband Walter Markey of Hackettstown, New Jersey, Lois A. and her husband John M. DiMare of Medford and John J. Carew, III of Livermore Falls, Maine, daughter-in-law; Christine Carew of Wilmington, grandchildren; Jolene, Richard, Christen, Daniel, Danielle, Christopher, Catie, Kevin, Kerry, Jessica and Kelli, great-grandchildren; Julianna, Gabi, Christian, Corinne, Erin and Ethan and many nieces and nephews. Gloria was also the mother of the late Francis J. “Frank” Carew and sister of the late Lawrence and Willard Lindner.
Her funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial, celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 11:30 AM Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Donations in Gloria’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, or Rosie’s Place, 889 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118.
