David Walter Herrick, was born on April 17, 1946 at Washington Hospital in Culver City, California, to Paul Myron Herrick and Ruth Jeanette Tallman.
Dave was a native Californian who grew up in Culver City with his parents and older brother, John Paul Herrick and younger sister, Melanie Jane Herrick. He attended Charnock Road Elementary, and Palms Junior High in Culver City and then graduated Alexander Hamilton High School in 1964. At the age of 24 he enlisted with the Los Angeles Police Department. Dave served and protected the public for almost 32 years as a member of the LAPD. He worked the West Los Angeles and Venice divisions before he was assigned to Devonshire. During his time as an officer, he enjoyed playing baseball with the Devonshire baseball team and golfing with the LAPD Golf Association, but his real pride and joy was being an active member of the LAPD Trap and Skeet Team for almost 50 years. He was an excellent marksman and enjoyed competing in the California Police Olympics and other state, national and international tournaments with his cherished teammates/friends, even after his retirement and into his 70’s, winning hundreds of gold medals and awards.
In addition to shooting and golf, he also loved fishing, hunting, cars and music. When he retired in 2002, he moved to Pahrump Nevada, where he continued to play his favorite sports and activities with his new and lifelong friends and family. Dave cherished his time with family and friends, and would go out of his way to be there for you. He was a very thoughtful and generous person who will be missed by many.
David Herrick is survived by his sister, Melanie Jane Herrick, his sister-in-law, Susan Renee Herrick, his nephew, Daren Allen Herrick, his niece, Denise Christine Herrick Borchert and his Grandnephews/nieces, Kane, Isabella, Clayton, Madeline, and Donavon.
