After a long battle with various health challenges, Ed went home to Jesus on October 20, 2024. He was a kind, generous, patriotic man who loved his family, brought people together and was quick to share words of wisdom, a thought-provoking quote or joke. His daily phone calls and emails will be missed as much as his immense love and support. Born to Anella (Sakowich) Boudreau and Edward J Boudreau Sr. on October 16, 1944. He was predeceased by his spouse of 51 years, Janet (Forsberg) Boudreau. He is survived by his daughter Nancy Boudreau and his son-in-law David DuPriest of North Reading, son Mark Boudreau and his partner Kathryn Zeiler of Arlington. He was a proud Papa to Tanner, Aaron and Cameron DuPriest. He is also survived by his brother Paul Boudreau and his wife Joan; nephew Paul Boudreau, his wife April and son Austin; niece Jill Boudreau and her children Zach, Olivia and Grace Meyer. For all her care and support, he was forever grateful to his dear friend, Ann Joly.
Ed was a graduate of Arlington High School Class of 1962 and Boston University School of Management in 1966 as well as a Member of Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. He earned an MBA from Suffolk University in 1971 and completed the Senior Executive Program at Stanford University in 1986.
While serving for 7 years in the US Army Reserves as a 1st Lt. assigned to the Massachusetts National Guard, he started a successful 33-year career with John Hancock. He had multiple assignments there, including being elected as its Treasurer at the age of 36. During his last twelve years with the company, he served as the CEO of their investment subsidiaries that sponsored mutual funds and private accounts. Additionally, he served for 8 years as a Governor on the Investment Company Institute Board (ICI).
During retirement, he started a consulting effort that helped small companies and mentored CEO's as they built their businesses. He was a member of several boards following his Hancock career including Columbia Funds for 14 years where he served as its Chairman of The Board for 2 years, overseeing funds totalling $300 billion at the time.
Ed enjoyed multiple rounds of golf around the globe as well as on his home course at Winchester Country Club, where he started as a caddie. He also had a passion for competitive shooting at Andover Sportsmen’s Club and Mass Rifle. At age 52, he learned the skills of a private and instrument rated pilot. He enjoyed flying across this country and photographing his journeys. His two Mooney aircraft served him well for the 3000 hours logged as pilot in command until health grounded him in 2018. Ed was also a long-time member of Shadow Wood CC in Estero FL and The Boston Economic Club. In 2022-2023 he penned a series of short stories published and sold through Amazon: Twisting Tales and Truth.
His favorite charitable entities were: The Boston Museum of Science where he was trustee for 20 years, The Walker Home and School in Needham where he served as director for 7 years, The Jimmy Fund, Alzheimer’s Association and Tunnel to Towers. Donations in his memory are greatly appreciated to these charities or a charity of your choice.
A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield, on Monday Oct. 28th at 11AM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Sunday, Oct. 27th from 3-6PM. Late veteran US Army, Vietnam Era.
