Carole F. (Marchessault) Hannon, 91, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 20th at St. Vincent Hospital. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles T. Hannon, retired Worcester Police Captain and acting Deputy Chief of the Worcester Police; her son, James T. Hannon and his wife, Melissa; her daughter, Eileen E. Tarini, all of Auburn; 5 grandchildren, Eric Hannon and his fiancée, Gillian, Erin Gough and her husband, Shawn, Cameron Tarini and his partner, Meghan, Jennifer Tarini and her partner, Aaron, and Patrick Hannon and his partner, Haley; and two great grandchildren, Waylon and Maisy. She is predeceased by her parents, Ernest O. and Helen V. (McMenemy) Marchessault and her great granddaughter, Charlotte Jean Gough.
She was born in Worcester and graduated from South High in 1951. She then went to Fitchburg State University and graduated with a degree in education. Carole taught second grade at Dartmouth Street School, before getting her master’s degree at Boston University in speech pathology. She worked as a speech therapist in the Auburn Public Schools for 26 years before retiring in 1995. Carole loved spending time with her husband and family where they enjoyed summers at the cape. In her spare time, she loved knitting, crocheting, reading and completing crossword puzzles. Carole was also President of the Worcester Police Wives Association, an active member of Auburn town meetings, the Retired Education Association, and Auburn Women’s Club.
Her funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 25th beginning at 11:30am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 194 Oxford St N, Auburn. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 24th from 4:00pm until 7:00pm in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue.
