LOWELL—Betty I. (Richards) Joynt, 73 years old, died Sunday morning, July 30th, at Radius Northwood Nursing Care, after a two year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the beloved wife of John W.H. Joynt, with whom she would have celebrated 44 years of marriage in November of this year.
She was born in the Wigginville section of Lowell on August 16, 1932, the second daughter of the late Thomas and Irene (Dowrey) Richards. She was a graduate of the Riverside Grammar School and Lowell High School. She also attended Lowell Commercial College.
In her early years, she worked for Sunoco Products and 1400 Motors. She was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan, and enjoyed listening to the Lowell High School football game on Thanksgiving Day. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband in her later years.
Surviving her besides her husband are two sons: John Joynt, Jr., and Thomas Joynt, both of Lowell; a daughter and son-in-law: Betty and Mark Kelley, of Beverly; two sisters: Lois Hannigan, of Tewksbury; and Alice Scogin, of Roanoke, VA; four sisters-in-law: Roberta Richards, of Nashua, NH; Fernande Joynt, of Lowell; Mausie Fergus, of Lochrea, Ireland; and Louise Malone, of Bexhill on Sea, England; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Thomas Richards.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, August 2nd, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her funeral service to be held Thursday, August 3rd at 9 AM at the LAWRENCE STREET PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
