Joan C. King, 67
Dateline: Norton, MA
Joan C. (Finnerty) King, age 67, of Raynham, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home after a long illness, with family by her side on Friday, October 18, 2024. She was the beloved wife of George R. King, Jr., to whom she was happily wed for 37 years.
Born in Brighton, MA, on May 28, 1957, she was a loving daughter of the late William James and Frances (Grinkievich) Finnerty, Jr.
As a young girl, her family moved from East Boston to Sumner Gardens in Stoughton where she graduated from Stoughton High School in 1975. Joan’s early career began with the FBI working as a special stenographer, and then as a secretary for Easton Public Schools. After taking time off to raise her family, she later worked in the Development Office for Coyle & Cassidy High School, and then in customer service roles for multiple car dealerships and Bed Bath & Beyond where her co-workers became treasured friends.
She had the innate ability to make people feel at ease and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Joan was on a first name basis with the employees of every place she frequented, and there was no such thing as a quick trip to the store with her. Joan’s gift for gab was only matched by her delight in a good deal as she somehow had a coupon for everything.
A strong catholic woman with a deep devotion to her faith, Joan believed deeply in the positive effects of a catholic education and ensured that all of her children attended Taunton Catholic Schools. She also served as a CCD teacher, and “volunteered” her children to be in the church choir as well as altar servers.
Family was most important to Joan. She cherished summers spending time with her children at the Edgewood Pool Club, and family trips to the East Hill Farm in New Hampshire. Joan loved being a mom, and was thrilled to be called “Gram” when she became a grandmother. Being there in any way for her loved ones is what gave her the most joy.
Joan will be forever remembered by all those that had the great privilege of knowing her, and will live on in the hearts of all those she touched in such a special way.
In addition to her husband George, she is survived by her devoted children Michael King and his wife Stephanie of Taunton, Victoria King of Las Vegas, Nevada, Veronica King of Fall River, and Nicole King of Raynham. She was the proud and cherished grandmother of Madelyn, Finnley, Declan, Francesca, and Arrow. She was the dear sister of Jill Finnerty and her husband, Tom DePalma of Taunton, Jeffrey Finnerty and his wife Jacqueline of Falmouth, and the late Jean LaCivita, who is survived by her husband, Carl of South Easton. She is also survived by her much-loved nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, October 27th from 2:00-5:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street, Norton.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 28th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, 19 Kilmer Avenue, Taunton. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Street Cemetery in Raynham.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Joan with a donation in her memory made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Ann Parish, P.O. Box 247, Raynham Center, MA 02768.
