George "Jiggs" N. Griffin, 86, of Londonderry, NH, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Villa Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Manchester, NH. Born in Manchester on May 22, 1938, he was the son of the late George and Anastasia (Steckewicz) Griffin.
George grew up in Auburn, NH, attending the Auburn Village School and later Memorial High School in Manchester. After completing his education, he began working in the construction industry. In August 1961, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably until his discharge in July 1967. The following year, George married Barbara L. Ross of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and together they raised their family in Londonderry, NH.
A highly skilled heavy equipment operator, George built a long and distinguished career in the construction industry, working on major civil infrastructure projects throughout New England. He was very proud of, and truly loved, his 50-year career, during which he was employed by companies such as IUOE 98, RS Audley, Palazzi Corp, Allard Paving, Atom Contracting, George R. Cairns & Sons, and Continental Paving Inc., where he retired after 25 years of dedicated service.
George was a very loving and devoted husband and father who cherished time with his family. He enjoyed long scenic weekend drives with Barbara and snowmobiling with his children, Tye and Tracy. When he wasn’t spending time with his family, George could be found in the garage fixing any type of machinery imaginable. Ever humble, he would often downplay his abilities, saying, "It’s just nuts and bolts."
He is survived by his son, Tye Griffin of Auburn, NH; his daughter, Tracy Griffin and her husband Stephen Boyle of Spencer, MA; his grandson, Cody Griffin; and two great-grandchildren, Karliah and Kenway Griffin. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Ross) Griffin, in 1999, and his sister, Jane Griffin, in 1980.
Following cremation, a private burial will be held at Auburn Village Cemetery in Auburn, NH.
