Jayne Ann Galley Reilley, 84, of Londonderry, NH, passed away Wednesday October 16, 2024, in the Courville at Manchester. Jayne was born September 15, 1940 in Windsor, England during the Battle of Briton. During the war her mother would shelter her in the London subway during the bombing attacks. She attended nursing school at Hammersmith Hospital in London getting a degree in nursing and midwifery.
She worked as a midwife in London riding a scooter around her district much like the TV show "Call the Midwife". But, she always wanted to see the world. She took a job with the World Health Organization and traveled to the Zambian town of Broken Hill where she worked as a midwife for a number of years. In all she delivered over 2000 babies. During her time there she traveled around southern Africa visiting Kenya, Tanzania, Rhodesia, South Africa, and Lesotho.
Next she accepted a job as head of nursing at the Oil Industry Clinic in Tripoli, Libya. There she met her future husband Peter Reilley who was there to install a power plant for Westinghouse Electric. After leaving Libya in 1976 she came to America and became a US citizen.
She worked at Mass General Hospital on the organ transplant unit. After a number of years working as a nurse on the floor she moved into an administration job managing transplant cases. She retired from Mass General after 28 years of service. In retirement she volunteered at Habitat for Humanity.
She leaves her loving husband and companion of almost 50 years, Peter Reilley, and daughter Alexandra Reilley-Palmer.
Following cremation, memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday October 24, 2024 from 6 – 7:30pm with a period of sharing to begin at 7:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A Graveside service will be held by the family on Friday October 25, 2024 at 10:00am in the Pillsbury Cemetery, Hovey Rd., Londonderry, NH.
