Born January 21, 1949, in Tift County, Marty was the son of the late Winford Hoyt Morris, Sr. and Illa Wynn Morris. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jannigje “Jeanne” Hardeman Morris; and one brother, Louell Morris. Before retiring, he was a receiving clerk at Kelley Manufacturing Company in Tifton for 27 years.

As he grew, Marty learned that Sundays were for attending church and visiting relatives. Along with his family, they attended Irwinville Baptist Church. Marty was saved and baptized as a young teenager. In later years, when he returned to the area, he became a Deacon. He loved attending and serving at church.

After high school, he received a degree in Farm Machinery Repair from South Georgia Technical and Vocational School in Americus. Because of his deep love and pride for his country, Marty joined the Army and served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.

Marty’s best legacy is his three grandchildren – Christina-23, TJ-17, and Illa-15 (named after his mother). He loved spending time with them and hearing about their adventures of the day.

Marty is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Gary Oliver of Ashburn and Amy and Mickie Williams of Sycamore; two brothers, Armond Morris of Tifton and Hoyt Morris, Jr. of Newnan; one sister, Benita Roberts of Bonaire; three grandchildren, Christina Williamson, T. J. Oliver and Illa Oliver; and two great-grandchildren, Dallas Williamson and Avery Williamson.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Legacy Village in Tifton for their love and care of Marty for the past seven years, as well as the staff of Traditions Hospice since April of this year.
