CHICOPEE – Heinz P. Hochrein, 89, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Mont Marie Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Essen, Germany on December 14, 1934, a beloved son of the late Heinrich and Wilhelmine (Tives) Hochrein. He was raised and educated in Germany and settled in Chicopee in 1961 where he lived for most of his life. He was a Lot Manager for many dealerships in the area including Center Pontiac in Springfield, Country Jeep Eagle in Agawam, and Springfield Mack Inc. and retired in 2005. He was a “jack of all trades” and especially enjoyed making candles and clocks. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves his former wife, Erika J. (Hollenbach) Hochrein of Columbia, SC; his four loving and devoted children, Heinz H. Hochrein, Robert P. Hochrein, and Oliver W. Hochrein, all of Chicopee, and Tanja B. Kopec and her husband, Richard, of Columbia, SC; his four cherished grandchildren, Kylie Hochrein, Alexander Kopec, Nicholas Kopec, and Alisha Fontonez and her husband, Eric; his dear nephew, Paul Orban and his wife, Lisa, and their sons, Alex and Tyler, all of Southwick; and his many dear cousins, extended family members, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear sister and brother-in-law, Inger E. Orban and her husband, Joseph. His funeral and burial will be private. There are no visiting hours.
