Barry M. Powell, 66, of Derry, NH, passed away Wednesday October 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born on April 13, 1958 in Merrimac, MA, a son of Earl Powell and Helen Skibicki Powell. Barry proudly served in the US Army with dedication and honor. He took great pride in his service, and his commitment to our country will be remembered with gratitude. Barry was a dedicated drum instructor and a proud member of the Drum Corps and Marching Band for many years. His passion was for music and inspired countless amounts of students while teaching.
In addition to his father, Barry is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Cindy (Green) Powell of Derry, NH. He leaves behind five children: Joshua Powell of Chipley, FL; Keri-Anne Powell and Tiffany Green, both of Manchester, NH; Michelle Airoldi and her spouse, Bryan Airoldi, of Wilton, NH; and Kristina Cowels and her fiancé, John Gregory, of Grand Junction, CO. Barry also cherished his five grandchildren, Jevon, Noah, Deanna, Jade, and Brittany. He is survived by three brothers: Andrew Powell of Pembroke, MA; Dennis Powell of East Schodack, NY; and Mick Powell of Haverhill, MA. Additionally, he is survived by three sisters: Kathy Peavey and Amy Noble, both of Merrimac, MA, and Luanne Powell of Massachusetts, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Barry was predeceased by his mother, Helen Powell, and one brother, Daniel Powell.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 1 - 3 PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH with cremation to follow. Graveside services will be held by the family on Wednesday October 23, 2024 at 12:00pm at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy., Boscawen, NH.
