Frances Harkins was born to Frank and Annette Colonese on July 31, 1931 in Derby, Connecticut. She had four children - Gayle Oko of Mystic, CT, Robert W. Harkins Jr. of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Richard Harkins of Tampa, FL and David Harkins of Mystic, CT. She had two grandchildren - David Oko of West Hartford, CT and Marie Stayrook of Waterford, CT. She also had two great grandchildren - Sawyer and Hunter.
At the age of 18 she opened a slipcover and drapery business and from there she went on to become a very successful entrepreneur. She owned dress boutiques, beauty salons, health clubs and culminating in a fine art gallery in Mystic, CT. She was also a poet and writer. At the age of 93, she authored a book which was a family history. She lived many places but in her later years she made her home in Mystic, CT.
