William Francis Scherer, Sr. 85, of Medway died peacefully at his home on October 14, 2024, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Roberta M. (Fishbon) Scherer for the past 64 years.
Born in Boston, July 4, 1939, the son of the late Joseph and Henrietta (Gray) Scherer, William was raised in Jamacia Plain and had lived in Medway for the past 59 years.
William had been a dispatcher for the Weston Nurseries before retiring.
He had previously worked for the Diebold Corporation and the Bernarts Company.
William served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
He was a former Manager of St. Joseph’s Band and Color Guard, and a former President of the Jaycees. He was active in the Medway Senior Center’s “Wednesday Morning Breakfast”
He enjoyed bowling, working in his yard, and playing puzzles with his grandson, Patrick.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Donna Buckley of Medway and her former husband Jim Buckley of Waltham and William F. Scherer, Jr. and his wife Mary of Bellingham.
He is also survived by his brother John Scherer of Holliston and was the brother of the late Joseph Scherer, Kathleen Dodds, and Elizabeth Lazaron.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Patrick, Kerri-Ann and her significant other Doug Cochrane and Craig and his fiancé Julie Aldred, and his adopted family, The Luciers.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 22 in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
