Obituary

“USEdward L. Mahoney passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 14, 2024 in Boston, MA. He was 78 years old. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, a Boston sports enthusiast, who loved spending time with his family on Cape Cod.

Born in Boston, he attended Belmont High School, followed by Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University, obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil engineering. Throughout his forty-year career, he worked for several leading Boston engineering firms, contributing expertise to The Big Dig. He proudly served his country for over 20 years as a Major in the Army Reserves Corps of Engineers. He was active in the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).

He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty three years, Diane (Feeney) Mahoney, his daughter Pamela Mahoney Peak and her husband David Peak, and his grandchildren Alexa and Dylan Peak. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Ellen Boudreau, Lois Tremmel, and William Mahoney, along with their spouses, and his nine nieces and nephews.

He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, October 22, promptly at 10:45 A.M., at the Veteran’s Administration National Cemetery in Bourne. Everyone will gather inside of the front entrance prior to the committal. A celebration of life will follow.
