Obituary

Matthew C. Blanchard, 69, of Leicester, died at home on Saturday, October 12th. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marcia L. (Leon) Blanchard; his two sons, Matthew C. Blanchard, Jr. of Greenfield and Marc Blanchard of Seattle, WA; his daughter, Laura Blanchard and her partner, Todd Liebman of Leicester; three brothers, Philip J. Blanchard III and his wife, Lynne of Pittsfield, Michael A. Blanchard and his wife, Norma of Manchester, NH and Andrew J. Blanchard and his wife, Elizabeth of Andover; two sisters, Ellen Potter and her husband, Charles of Harpers Ferry, WV and Mary A. Blanchard of Washington, D.C.; three granddaughters, Fiona, Olivia and Ava Liebman and many nephews and nieces.

Matt was born in Worcester, the son of Philip J. Blanchard, Jr. and Ellen E. (McKeon) Blanchard. He was employed for many years with the family business, Blanchard Foods, which he later co-owned and operated. Matt was extremely kind and had a big heart. He loved people, which became the foundation of his expressive personality and served him well throughout his life. He was a natural communicator and a wise counsel for all those he encountered. His creative mind led to a lifetime enjoyment of working with his hands, projects ranging from creating furniture to woodworking and restoring classic cars. Family was the most important part of his life, and his greatest joy was the time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his extensive family and all who knew and loved him.

His funeral will be held on Friday. October 18th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Leicester. His calling hours are Thursday, October 17th, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
