Dr. Qisheng Guan, age 61, passed away peacefully on October 12th, 2024 at his home in Ventura, California after a courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Guan was born in the southwestern part of Shandong Province of China on October 29th, 1962. He was the fifth of seven children to Mrs. Wei and Mr. Guan. Dr. Guan graduated from the esteemed Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology in 1984. He then went on to complete another two years of postgraduate study in advanced applications of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) at the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where he met his wife, Juan Li. He dedicated his life to clinical practice and teaching of TCM not only in China and the U.S., but also in Denmark and Botswana, Africa. He had many publications throughout his life. After immigrating to the United States in 1999, Dr. Guan became a professor at the Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine. He then started his private practice in Santa Barbara in 2005 and took care of patients until 2022. Dr. Qisheng Guan had many hobbies including collecting, antiquing, hiking, cooking, gardening, carpentry, fixing computers and electronics, traveling and visiting national parks.
Dr. Qisheng Guan is survived by his wife, Juan Li, daughter, Dr. Xin Guan, son, Roy Y. Guan, and granddaughter, Luna J. Urrutia Guan. He is preceded in death by his parents, older sister and older brother. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Ventura County Medical Center and Livingston Memorial, who took excellent care of Dr. Guan until the end.
A viewing will be held at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Ventura on October 19, 2024 from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by words from the family.
