Gloria L. (Edwards) Plante, age 92, of Mansfield, passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 13, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard J. Plante, Sr., to whom she was wed for over sixty years at the time of his death on July 28, 2015.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on February 4, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Alice E. (Elbey) Edwards.
Gloria grew up and was educated in Providence. She was a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family and was previously employed as an answering service operator at the former Boynton Communications on Reservoir Street in North Attleboro.
A resident of Mansfield for over fifty years, Gloria was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield. Her happiest times were those spent amongst her adoring family, being a grandmother and great grandmother and along with her late husband Richard, traveling to Europe, enjoying many wonderful winters spent in Florida and when younger playing tennis. Gloria’s other hobbies included painting, card games, reading, playing bingo and the simple pleasure of watching classic movies.
She is survived by her devoted children, Richard Plante, Jr. and his wife Christine of North Attleboro, Debra Faria and her husband Thomas of Mansfield, Laurie Savini and her husband David of Attleboro, Patricia Cataloni and her husband Steven of Raynham, Karen Smith and her boyfriend Joseph Cook of Norton and the late Lynn Garland. She was the much-loved mother-in-law of the late Morgan Smith and is also survived by her cherished 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, as well as her loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 17th from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours on Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
