BUXTON - Charles “Charlie” Dwight Rose Jr., age 78, passed away on October 12, 2024, at home.
He was born on September 26, 1946, to parents Charles D. Rose Sr. and Emelda M. Roberge.
He attended Westbrook Schools and continued his education at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He selflessly joined the United States Army and served in Germany.
Upon returning home, he met and married his sweetie of 56 years Barbara Perry Rose in 1968.
He spent his working years as an auto mechanic at Morong Brothers until joining the Portland Fire Department in 1973. He served in the fire department for 25 years, retiring in 1999. He also worked for Giroux Oil for over 20 years.
Charles enjoyed traveling to his favorite Island of Bermuda and cruising through the Caribbean with his family. He enjoyed Maine adventures like hiking and biking in Acadia National Park. He was an avid reader and runner. He entered and even won a few races over the years. He most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, watching birds, and playing with his cats Rusty and Ginger and his grand dog Hanz.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Club, American Legion, and Boy Scouts of America.
Charles is preceded in death by his mother Emelda, his father Charles Sr., and his brother David.
Charles is survived by his wife Barbara, son Dan and wife Judy, daughter Crystal, 3 grandsons, Connor Chemell and his husband Wilt, Chase Pellitier and Sawyer Rose.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1 -2 PM, followed by a 2 PM service with Masonic Honors, at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton.
