Retired Boston Fire Department Lieutenant, Edward G. "Eddie" O'Brien, a resident of Hollywood, Florida and formerly of Charlestown and Somerville, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in Naples, Florida. He was 87 years of age.
Eddie was born in Boston on January 13, 1937, a son of the late James H. O'Brien and Mary C. (Knights) O'Brien. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated throughout the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. He enlisted into the United States Army on May 10, 1955, and served his country faithfully and with honor during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on April 30, 1963, with the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Eddie was appointed to the Boston Fire Department and served on Engine Company 3 in the South End of Boston and retired as a Lieutenant on Engine Company 32 in Charlestown following over 30 years of dedicated service to the City of Boston. He was a retired member of the Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718.
Eddie was an avid coin collector, enjoyed visiting the racetrack in Hollywood, Florida with his Boston friends and frequented the Mount Vernon Restaurant in Somerville.
Eddie is the beloved son of the late James H. O'Brien and Mary C. (Knights) O'Brien. He is the devoted brother of Beverly Rogers and her late husband Paul, the late Patricia Whitlock and her husband Francis "Bo", Marion Connolly and her husband James, Daniel O'Brien and his wife Kathleen and James O'Brien. Eddie is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eddie's Funeral Mass on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2024, at 10 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will follow with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
