Obituary




Raymond E. Hammerstrom, 87, of Worcester, died on Friday, October 11th in St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Beverly (Dangredo) Hammerstrom; a son, John Hammerstrom and his wife, Kathleen of Sterling; a daughter, Jean Marie Hammerstrom of Worcester; and three grandchildren, Kathryn Robinson and her husband, Brian of Marlborough, Emily Kinch and her husband, Michael of Holden, and Brian Hammerstrom of Waltham.

Born to Raymond and Cecelia (Robichaud) Hammerstrom, he was a lifelong resident of Worcester, where he graduated from Classical High School and Worcester Junior College. Raymond dedicated 45 years of his life as a typesetter at the Telegram and Gazette, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community. An Air Force veteran, he served his country with pride. A passionate New England sports fan, Raymond particularly loved watching the Boston Red Sox alongside his beloved wife, Beverly. He was a standout basketball player at Classical High School, earning a scholarship to the former Worcester Junior College, where he honed his skills and made lifelong friendships. An avid golfer, Raymond found joy in the game and cherished his morning routine of grabbing coffee at McDonald's with friends. His charismatic nature drew people to him, and he had a remarkable ability to light up any room. Most of all, Raymond's grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was also a devoted advocate for the Seven Hills Foundation, showing his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

His funeral Mass will be on Thursday, October 17th beginning at 10:00am in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 929 Main Street. Burial will follow in All Faith’s Cemetery, 9 Island Road. His calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 16th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seven Hills Foundation, 81 Hope Avenue, Worcester, MA 01603.
