Obituary

Donna Marie (Baril) (Chartier) Gagne, 77 of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024 at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of the late Andrew Gagne, who passed away in 2019.

Born in Lowell on August 3, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Edna (Montbleau) Baril. She was raised in the Centralville neighborhood of Lowell, where she attended the area schools and was a communicant of St. Michael Church.

For over 20 years, she worked in the kitchen of Tewksbury State Hospital where she dedicated her efforts until her retirement. In her later years, she became a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Fondly known as ‘Auntie Dodo,’ she loved taking chances at gambling, especially playing cards and bingo. She eagerly indulged in trips to Las Vegas whenever the opportunity arose. Known as the life of the party, she treasured time spent with family and friends, always enjoying their company to the fullest.

She is survived by her two children, Patricia Callahan and her husband, David of Manchester, NH, and Michael Chartier and his wife, Brenda of Lowell; four grandchildren, David Callahan Jr. and his wife, Jessica of Dunstable, Daniel Callahan and his fiancé, Julia of Shirley, Melissa Callahan of Round Rock, TX, and Destiny Callahan and her fiancé, Jake of Nashua, NH; and her great grandchildren, Elijah, Chloe, and Chase.

Also survived by her siblings, Lorraine Aguiar and her husband, Zeke of Lowell, Brenda Angove of Lowell, and Joseph Baril Jr. of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, the late Andrew Gagne; she was also predeceased by her son, the late David Chartier who passed away in 1997; her first husband, the late Richard Chartier; and her in laws, the late Lawrence Angove, III and the late Judith Baril.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-8 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.

On Wednesday morning, her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 11 a.m. followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
