Obituary

Michael D. Timmons, age 75, of West Roxbury passed away on September 30, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. He was the beloved husband of nearly 30 years to Sharon J. (Gattoni) Timmons of West Roxbury. Devoted father of Michael A. Timmons of West Roxbury. Dear brother of Barbara Vito of Norwood, Thomas F. Timmons, Jr. and his wife Susan of West Roxbury, Richard Timmons and his wife Cindy of Franklin, John Timmons and his wife Patty of Canton, Susan Sullivan and her husband Stephen of Franklin, the late Irene “Debbie” Weckesser, and Donna Sola. Mike was known as a wonderful “Funcle” to many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Mike was born on August 16, 1949. After graduating from Roslindale High School, he embarked on a dedicated career spanning over 30 years at John Hancock in Boston. He was a proud member of the Massachusetts National Guard, serving with distinction and forming lasting bonds within the military community.

Mike was deeply rooted in his community as a longtime parishioner at St. John Chrysostom Church in West Roxbury. A former member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of the Loyal Order of Moose, he spent his evenings socializing at the Dedham lodge. He enjoyed playing cribbage, pool, and the occasional game of golf. Mike was a passionate fan of Boston sports, and worked at Fenway Park after his retirement from John Hancock. You would often find him sitting in his yard waiting to entertain an unexpected guest or feeding the birds. His green thumb was evident in his beautifully tended garden and Koi Fish pond, which brought him much joy and tranquility. He loved to cook and always had a joke to tell followed by his contagious (boyish) laugh.

Michael Timmons will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his zest for life, as well as his generous and kind nature which bought joy to many lives. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 20th in the Knights of Columbus, Mount Pleasant Council 98, 5250 Washington St., West Roxbury, following the 9:30am Mass in Honor of the late members of the Timmons family at St. Johns Chrysostom Church, 4750 Washington St., West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Internment Private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 or www.dana-farber.org.
