Margaret (Peggy) Dorothy Flynn (Martino) 1948-2024
Peggy Flynn, a long-time resident of Norton, MA passed away peacefully at her home on October 10 after a brave battle with both lung cancer and lymphoma. She was 76.
Peggy was born in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston on July 14th, 1948 to Cornelius (Neil) and Dorothy (Dot) Flynn. She attended Saint Bart’s in Needham and graduated from Westwood High School in 1966.
Peggy grew up in a home bursting with love. She lived on St. Dennis Drive in Islington Westwood in a close-knit neighborhood overflowing with children of all ages. Peggy was well known as the best babysitter in the neighborhood by the Fabiano, Dennehy, Shilo and Zizza families. It was in this home and this neighborhood that the seeds of love were planted and there was so much more to come!
Most of Peggy’s working life was spent at Brockelman’s, Lechmere Sales and Chadwick’s of Boston where she was always willing to go above and beyond for customers and coworkers alike. She also proudly answered the phones for her father’s company, Flynn’s Taxi. Peggy was a member of Chi Ro, a young adult church organization. There she made many lasting friendships and wonderful memories.
Peggy was greatly influenced by her wonderful neighborhood and sought to create the same kind of wonderful place to raise her own children. When she moved onto Lincoln St. in Norton, the whole neighborhood benefitted from her connecting presence. She was once again living in a house bursting with love and this time she was leading it. Peggy’s dining room table was frequently full of guests whether they be family, friends or neighbors. Somehow, she always had enough to share for dinner or any other time. There were always extra kids in Peggy’s house. It was a safe haven for many.
Though Peggy was a hard worker, the work she is most proud of is the family she raised and the family she is a part of. First and foremost, she would always pour most of her love, affection and effort into the betterment of her children and family. There was nothing that mattered more to her. She was the top seller for every one of her children’s fundraisers and rarely missed a chance to see her children engage in their favorite activities. She volunteered in the community consistently whether she was working a concession stand, selling tickets for performances and raffles, working the BINGO nights for St. Mary’s Parish and more. She would do anything she could to help an individual as well as the community.
Aside from her family, some of Peggy’s favorite things in life were Disney World, especially Goofy, yellow roses, manicures, pedicures, head massages, BINGO, Yahtzee, the Patriots (yes, even this year), and playing cards. She loved to listen to music from the 60’s as well as Celtic Thunder. Some of her favorite foods were lobster rolls, filet mignon, baked stuffed shrimp and banana splits. She loved the American flag and was a very proud military mom. She also loved family weddings, which were some of her very favorite events and you could catch her dancing at every one of them. She would say and do anything she could to make people laugh and smile. That was a gift that she continued to give for as long as she possibly could, the wonderful staff members at Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center and Brockton VNA Hospice Department would tell you that!
Peggy is survived by her children, Keri Martino-Pickett and her husband Robert of Norton, Janis Lemieux and her husband Louis of Brockton and Neil Martino and his wife Pamela of Franklin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cooper and Brody Pickett, Faith, Ezekiel and Joy Lemieux and Elliana and Lucas Martino. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Patty and Dick Ionelli, Joe and Donna Flynn, Joni Flynn, Jane Jasper & Mark and Corrine Flynn as well as many, many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews of whom she was incredibly proud. She was also an honorary mom, Mimi, and Murmps to many. Peggy is predeceased by her parents, Cornelius (Neil) and Dorothy (Dot) Flynn, her brother Neil Flynn and her grand nephew Chase Miceli.
