Myrtle Woods Portier, 84, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home, in Ocilla, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Frank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. James Griffin officiating. The family will greet friends following the services at the cemetery.
Mrs. Portier was born January 15, 1940, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Jessie & Lodie Tucker Woods. Mrs. Portier had a career as a Licenses Practical Nurse serving Irwin County Hospital, Dr. Mixon and the Osceola Nursing Home. She loved playing ball with her grandchildren, riding her Kubota around the farm and being outdoors.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joe Portier of Irwin County; a son, Walter & Elizabeth Portier of Irwin County; a daughter, Sandi & Brian Sumner of Irwin County; grandchildren: Trey & Alex Norris Portier, Maribeth Portier Potter & Wyatt, Savana Douglas, Ellis Douglas, Rachel Sumner, Kalynn Sumner and Logan Sumner; great-grandchildren: Woods Portier, Eli Douglas and Raelynn Sumner; a brother, Woodrow “Woody” Woods & Peggy; a sister, Ruby W. Lodge and a sister-in-law, Lynda Woods. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Tillman Woods and a sister, Martha Woods Alford.
