Obituary

James “Charles” Mullis, 82, of Tifton passed away Monday, October 7, 2024, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Crossview Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Andy Ring officiating. Mr. Mullis will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

David Freas, Jimmy Workman, Bobby Blanchard, Ian Mullis, Bubba Blanchard, Adam Freas, Alex Freas, Jacob Workman, Joseph Burke and Todd Sokolowski will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be a group of Mr. Mullis' friends who met at Charles’ Seafood every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. for at least 40 years.

Born May 11, 1942, in Tift County, Mr. Mullis was the son of the late Jacob Arvie Mullis and Mary Esther Hester Mullis. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Anne Norris Mullis; and one sister, Sara Ann Hattaway. Before retiring, he worked for the United States Department of Agriculture; and he was a member of Crossview Baptist Church in Tifton.

Mr. Mullis is survived by his wife, Deborah Hess Mullis of Tifton; one son, Ian Mullis of Norman Park; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Rhonda and Jimmy Workman of Meigs, Toni Blanchard and Amanda Green, both of Tifton, Alexis Mullis of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Windy and Todd Sokolowski of Gray and Theresa and David Freas of Alpharetta; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Janice Mullis, Lewis and Kim Mullis and Roy Paul and Karen Mullis; two sisters, Betty Sue Parkerson and Lydia (Sissy) Baldree; nine grandchildren, James, Julia, Melinda, Dusty, Bubba, Maddie, Alex, Jacob and Adam; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial gifts may be made to Crossview Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1059, Tifton, GA 31793.
