It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Louella Carey Davis, lovingly known to many as Virginia, who departed from this world on September 25, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston at the age of 80. Virginia was born on July 5, 1944, in Boston, where she spent a lifetime spreading love, kindness, and joy to everyone she encountered.
Virginia is preceded in death by her loving parents Isabelle (Marsh Carey) Grunderway, Edward J. Carey, and stepfather Lawrence Grunderway, her cherished daughter, Robbyn M. Davis, and several beloved siblings: Edwinia (Carey) Middleton and her husband James Middleton, Ramona Carey, and her brother Jacque E. Carey. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength to her surviving family members, including her daughters Michelle D. Davis of Lowell, Christine L. McCarthy and her husband Patrick M. McCarthy of Lowell, and son Stephen F. Davis and his wife Heather Clark Davis of Saugus, son-in-law Gregory Dias and her former husband Francis C. Davis. Virginia is also survived by her siblings Letha Roberts and her husband Lawrence Roberts of Marietta, Georgia, David Carey and his wife Denise Carey of Essex, Maryland, Adrienne Allen and her husband Stephen Allen of Saint Marys, Georgia and Cheryl C. Freeman of Saint Marys, Georgia, along with six grandchildren: Danielle English, Nykole Dias, Arielle Ebode-Messi, Gabrielle McCarthy, Marcus Davis, Miles Davis, and inherited grandchildren, Dwayne Broadnex and family, Charon (Dias) Hughes and family, three great-grandchildren: Aniayah Dias-Brown, Madison English, Brooklynn Williams, and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
Virginia graduated from Newbury Junior College in 1977 with an associate's degree and went on to make immense contributions to her community, earning numerous accolades from the City of Boston for her dedicated service. She was highly involved in her local church and was known as an engaging community member who always put others' needs before her own.
Some of her treasured memories involved family gatherings, social outings, her beloved Mo Betta Sisters friend group, and trips to the beach every summer. She loved dancing, watching western television shows and movies, tending to her garden in her backyard and making her home cozy and inviting for her friends and family to visit. Virginia was an excellent seamstress and took pride in making her own clothes and sewing her children’s clothes when they were young.
Growing up in West Medford, she held onto her roots dearly and took pride in her upbringing. Her kindness, humor, generosity, outgoing nature, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone around her, making her a truly special soul.
Visiting hours to honor Virginia's life will be held at the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, MA, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Her funeral service will take place at the People's Baptist Church of Boston, 830 Tremont Street, Boston, MA on Friday, October 11, 2024, with the viewing at 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am. Interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park, MA, 45 Fairview Ave, Boston, MA 02136. Repast will follow the internment; the location will be shared after the funeral service.
