Wendy Katherine Patton Dix, 60, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, October 6, 2024, peacefully, at her home after surviving a tough battle and beating breast cancer.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Blane Jacobs officiating and friend, Dene’ Hogan delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery, in Ben Hill County, Georgia.
Wendy was born October 2, 1964, to Wendell and Sara Faie Hunter Patton. She was a 1982 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, where she was a member of the color guard and the relay track team. Wendy worked as a certified cosmetologist, a literacy teacher through Communities in Schools and eventually she was elected to serve on the Ben Hill County Board of Education. She was also the owner of Wendy’s Interior and Antiques and was a timber farmer.
Wendy was a free spirit who loved people, animals, the beach and sharing her unique talent of decorating with others. She was famous for returning antiques to their original beauty. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore many places and experiences. Her fearless approach to life was an inspiration to many and her memory will live in the hearts of those she touched.
She was preceded in death by her greatest accomplishment and most beloved only son, Ed Alex Dix “Beau”; her parents: Wendell and Sara Faie Hunter Patton; paternal grandparents: Ed Rufus and Alene Vickers Patton; maternal grandparents: Ed Dorminy Hunter and her precious MeMaw, Katherine Chasteen Hunter. She leaves behind a brother, James “Patton” Young of Ben Hill County; an aunt, Wanda Patton Moncrief of Jacksonville, Florida; her adored three dogs: Bendy, Chase and Mazzy Grace; several cousins; and a host of close friends who loved her. The family and friends wish to acknowledge Wendy’s caregivers: Jackie Barnes, Gail Carver, Iris Fuller, Ruby Hall, Melissa Powell and Linda Thompson for their loving care and support.
