Obituary

John Allan Perkins, 97, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on October 4th, 2024. He was the last child of the late Carl V. and Clara Perkins, formerly of Orono, ME. He was a devoted husband of sixty years to Rose Merlino Perkins, and the adoring father of three children, Jennifer Perkins Moran, Susan Perkins Roberts, and John Merlino Perkins and their spouses Matt Moran, Brad Roberts and Julia Perkins.

He was the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren - Kelly Rose Helgesen, Matthew Moran, Dylan Moran, Lucia Perkins, Abigail Perkins, Lauren Roberts and Joanna Hueber.

He served in the 88th Infantry Division during World War II in the heavy artillery unit. He was a proud alumni of the University of Maine (Orono) and graduated with a Doctorate from the University of Connecticut. He was a professor for 41 years in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at Rhode Island College. John also worshiped faithfully at St. Philips Church in Greenville for more than fifty years. He had a great love for his family, the state of Maine and the Red Sox.
He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing this kind and generous man.

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, October 10th at 10am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Jamestown. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9th, 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
