Obituary

Mary H. (Hurstak) Smallcomb, 72, of Bridgewater (formerly of Whitman), Massachusetts, passed away on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 in the comfort of her home.

Mary was born in Boston in 1952 to John and Teresa Hurstak. She was a graduate of Braintree High School, the University of New Hampshire, and Boston University. She worked most recently as a case manager at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital before her retirement.

Mary was a caregiver at heart and lived her life with others at the center. She was a loving sister to her five siblings and her brothers and sister’s in-law and had many close friendships. A devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Mary leaves behind her beloved husband, John Smallcomb Sr.; her son, John Smallcomb Jr. and his wife, Kelly; her daughter, Elizabeth Machunski and her husband, Jeff; and five grandchildren: Katherine and Andrew Smallcomb, and Nathan, Grace, and Ella Machunski. She is also survived by her brother, John Hurstak and his wife Jackie; her brother Joseph Hurstak and his wife, Jan; her sister, Jane Sword and her husband Peter; her sister-in-law Linda Hurstak; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary is predeceased by her son, Peter, and her brother, Stephen.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 8th, 4:00-7:00 p.m., at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Family and friends are welcome to join Wednesday, October 9th, to meet at the funeral chapel at 9:45 a.m. to join in a procession to the Holy Ghost Parish, Whitman for a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Donations may be made in Mary’s name to the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association and/or Old Colony Hospice.
