William L. ‘Blake’ ‘Coach’ Blakeney, Jr., 71 of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Tufts Hospital in Boston.
He was born on July 10, 1953, in Tewksbury, the son of the late William L. and Kathryn (Gaffney) Blakeney. Raised in Tewksbury, he attended local schools, graduating from Tewksbury Memorial High School. He then continued his education at St. Anselm College and Salem State College.
Following college, he began his career with the Town of Tewksbury, initially working with the executive assistant to the Town Manager. He later dedicated over 40 years to the Water Billing Department, where he worked until his retirement in September 2023.
Fondly known as "Coach," he was deeply involved in the Town of Tewksbury, dedicating over 25 years to coaching and umpiring in the local softball leagues. His contributions to the community were numerous, including his work with the Town's Union and his involvement in establishing the Tewksbury Federal Credit Union.
He cherished time spent at his family home in Cape Porpoise, Maine. Known for his larger-than-life presence, he was also incredibly quiet, thoughtful, kind, and trusting. His warmth and sincerity drew people in, and he formed countless friendships over the years.
He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Blakeney of Tewksbury; his significant other Robin Scott of Lowell for over 15 years and her family; Robin’s three children, Amy Campbell and her husband, Joe, Suzanne Kelly-Scott and her wife, Elizabeth, and Shawn Scott and Robin’s five grandchildren. He was also survived many cousins and many many friends.

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024 all are welcome to attend his funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury. Meet directly at church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
