Judith D. (Brill) Callahan, 82, a longtime resident of Bellingham, died Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Brendan J. Callahan who died in 1995.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on December 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Walter Francis and Dorothy (Terpak) Brill.
Judy grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania and graduated from Marywood Seminary in Scranton. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the former Newton College of the Sacred Heart and her master’s degree from the University of Maine - Orono.
Retiring in 2001, Judy had worked as a bank teller at Ben Franklin Savings Bank for many years and had previously worked as a junior high school science teacher.
Judy was a holy woman of deep faith. She cherished and lived in relationship with God daily. He was her mainstay, her Rock.
Judy was an avid reader, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and loved playing cards with her family, especially cribbage and “31.” She loved going to the beach and enjoyed spending her summers at her home in Falmouth.
Judy had an appreciation for the arts and opera and was a true conservationist and environmentalist. She loved her dogs and had bred Alaskan Malamutes. Judy was generous, smart, and funny. She valued gathering loved ones together and made a lasting impact on anyone who was lucky to know her.
She is survived by her siblings, Marilyn Manley and her husband Mike of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Walter Francis “Wally’ Brill and his wife Sheila of Liverpool, New York, Bonnie Ludwig and her husband Brian of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Richard Brill and his wife Mary Clare of Scranton, Michael Brill and his wife Lee Ann of Henderson, Nevada, Mary Beth Mecca and her husband Tom of Overland Park, Kansas, and Sandy Brill and her husband Danny Brennan of Scranton.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and many godchildren who loved her so much, and her longtime friend Roberta Arsenault of Uxbridge.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, October 8 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway ginleyfuneralhomes.com followed by her funeral Mass at St. Brendan Church, 382 Hartford Ave. in Bellingham at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
