Neil R. Garnett, a longtime resident of Westport, MA passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024. Born in the Masons Bay district of Jonesport, ME on October 3, 1937. He was the 8th of 9 children born to Helen A. (Smith) Garnett and Clarence P. Garnett, Sr.
Neil attended Jonesport schools. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the in the U.S. Navy proudly serving as an Electronics Technician from 1954 – 1958, and US Merchant Marines from 1960-1962.
He went on to earn a degree in Electronics Technology from Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1964. He began his career with IBM and later went to work as an electrical engineer for the former Montaup Electric Company in Somerset and Eastern Utilities Associates in Lincoln, RI for many years, retiring in 2000 after they were acquired by National Grid.
Neil was well respected in his career and personal life. He was always willing to help out a neighbor or friend. He loved spending time with his family, visiting his brothers and sisters in Maine, and especially spending time with his 5 grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Pauline (Ferreira) Garnett, his three children; Rachael S. (Garnett) Murphy and her husband, Tom of Milford; Jeanne N. (Garnett) Deree and her husband Clay of Westport; Gregg N. Garnett and his wife Megan of Bend, OR; his 5 Grandchildren, Melina Deree, Logan Deree, Jack Murphy, Ryan Murphy, & Sawyer Garnett; His 2 brothers, Robert Garnett and wife Adelaide and Clarence Jr. and wife Beverly; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his four sisters- Fern Alley, Hazel Noerr, Leona White, and Greta Thebeau and two brothers, Merton and William.
