Obituary

Floyd “Charlie” Bangs Jr.

1962-2024

BUXTON - Floyd “Charlie” Bangs Jr. 62, of Buxton, passed away on September 29, 2024 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a two year fight with cancer.

He was born in Portland, Maine on August 26, 1962, a son of Floyd C. Bangs Sr. and Virginia Bangs, and grew up in Buxton. He held many jobs including working at Elliot’s Butcher Shop, the Maple Syrup Farm in Byron, Maine and most recently at the Seaside Skilled Nursing Care Center, Portland, in the dietary and laundry departments. Charlie especially enjoyed socializing with the residents.

He was a “true Mainer” spending his time hunting, fishing, camping and panning gold in the Swift River in Byron, Maine. His most favorite place was being in Jackman with his family and friends. Traveling the back roads and woods in his truck with Rita and their dog, Wonder, (and sometimes getting lost) was also a favorite pastime. He was always looking for an adventure where ever the roads would take him.

He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Rita Dunton, and her son Reggie. Also a brother, Neal Bangs; 3 sisters; Carol Maynard, Christine Bangs and Eileen Bangs. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by many and also by his dog Wonder.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, a sister Cori Vavra and brother Calvin Bangs.

A special thank you to Dr. Jessica Bian and her staff at the MaineHealth Cancer Center and to the nurses and staff from the Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice.

Among the woods and mountains where you grew up, there your spirit will always live.

And there you will leave it when you are gone.
