John Sanders Geas, 85, of Derry, NH, passed away Monday September 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born on January 8, 1939 in Groton, MA, a son of the late Charles and Esther (Sanders) Geas, and had been a resident of Derry for the past 44 years. John proudly served his country in the US Air Force, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and was the recipient of several medals and commendations. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. John was also a member of the Lafayette Bible Lodge #41 F & AM of Manchester, the Bektash Shrine Temple in Concord, the Ruth Chapter #16 O.E.S and the White shrine of Manchester. He achieved the York Rite Degree in the Masons. John was a Call Firefighter and EMT for East Dery Fire Department and was an advisor for the Firefighter Explorers.
He is survived by his two sons, John S. Geas, Jr. and his wife Terri of TN and James S. Geas and his wife Pauline of Derry; three grandchildren, John S. Geas, III, Danielle Geas and James Scott Jr.; four great grandchildren, one brother, Charles P. Geas, as well as two nieces. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia F. (Reardon) Geas in 2005, his daughter Robin L. Walters in 1993 and his grandson, Shawn Walters in 2005.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 4 – 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00am in the funeral home. Burial with his wife will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry Road, Derry. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Assoc or to the American Lung Assoc.
