James Alton Rogers, Jr., age 73, of Panama City, Florida passed away peacefully at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Hospital on September 24,2024. He was born on Oct. 15, 1950 to James Alton, Sr. “Mutt” and Doris Melton Rogers in Fitzgerald, GA where he was raised.
He was drafted into the Army and as an ever proud patriot did three tours in Vietnam. He went on to have a career in HVAC with his largest project being the construction manager at Forward Operating Base Spin-Boldak, in Kandahar, Afghanistan
He was a devoted Georgia Bulldog, a loyal FHS Football Compton ‘Cane, and an unwavering friend to all.
Alton is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sue R. Mitchell and brother, Glendon Rogers and many dear friends.
He is survived by his children Jason A. Rogers of Morristown, TN and Jessica (Ryan) Cherry of Bristol, FL; grandchildren: Ansley, Lucas, & Joey Rogers and Laurel & Adelaide Cherry; great granddaughter Ava Velez; sister Dorothy (Larry) Swanson; brother Glenn (Amy) Rogers; and a host of extended family and lifelong friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, 279 Benjamin H. Hill Dr., Fitzgerald, Ga
As a friend of many, the family would like to invite all that wish to gather longer to join them immediately following the service for a time of fellowship. A location will be announced at the graveside.
